Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Biddenden Road, Cranbrook TN17 2AB
Thursday 16 August 2018

We have arranged a visit to Sissinghurst Castle Garden in Kent. There are still the remains of an Elizabethan manor house, which was largely destroyed in the English Civil War. In the early 20th century Harold Nicholson and Vita Sackville West restored the lovely grounds and converted the stable block into a library.Other buildings open to the public are: the Tower and the Oasthouse, where visitors may view a special exhibition about Gardening Women. The National Trust provides a restaurant facility at Sissinghurst opening at 10.00am. The Garden opens at 11.00am. South Cottage, where the Nicholsons lived, may also be open to the public.

For people choosing to go by train, take the 10.10am from Charing Cross for an hour's journey to Staplehurst. Then a minicab will take you to the Garden but please let us know by Wednesday 1 August if you wish to use the minicab service. The train fare and entrance to Sissinghurst will be at your expense. This is because it is a National Trust Property and some of our group are members. The individual non-member group price is £11.85. The price to include the return minibus journey and administration is £12.00; £4.00 if you do not need the minibus. Cheques are to be made out to Regent's Park Decorative and Fine Arts Society and sent to Geoffrey Sudlow, 3 Wulstan Park, Potters Bar, Herts. EN6 5JN.
